I Can Only Imagine
I can only imagine
What it will be like
When I walk
By His side
I can only imagine
What my eyes will see
When His face
Is before me
I can only imagine
I can only imagine
Surrounded by His glory,
what will my heart feel
Will I dance my Lord Jesus
or in awe of him be still
Will I stand in His presence
or to my knees will I fall
Will I sing hallelujah,
will I be able to speak at all
I can only imagine
I can only imagine
I can only imagine
When my day comes
When I find myself
Standing in the Son
I can only imagine
When all I will do
Is forever
Forever glory in His truth
I can only imagine
Oh, I can only imagine
Surrounded by His glory,
what will my heart feel
Will I dance my Lord Jesus
or in awe of him be still
Will I stand in His presence
or to my knees will I fall
Will I sing hallelujah,
will I be able to speak at all
I can only imagine
I can only imagine
I can only imagine, yeah
Oh, surrounded by His glory,
what will my heart feel
Will I dance my Lord Jesus
or in awe of him be still
Will I stand in His presence
or to my knees will I fall
Will I sing hallelujah,
will I be able to speak at all
I can only imagine
I can only imagine
Oh, I can only imagine
Oh, I can only imagine
Oh, I can only imagine
Oh, yeah
Oh
After spending weeks at number one on the charts, this song garnered Dove awards for both “Pop Song” and “Song of the Year,” and “Song writer of the Year” for Bart Millard. I contacted Bart prior to recording his song, regarding a few ideas I had for some subtle changes for this particular performance. Bart was so incredibly gracious and open to my ideas. I am so deeply grateful for his trust. Bart Millard’s lyrics grew out of a period of personal pain. In 1991, his father passed away after a long battle with cancer. When people told him that his father would choose heaven over coming back, Bart, then 18 years of age, began thinking about what his father was experiencing in heaven. He soon found himself repeating the phrase, “I can only imagine.” Thank you Bart for this magnificent and glorious song. – Marie Osmond
